Allegheny County and Pittsburgh moved into the yellow phase of Governor Tom Wolf’s reopening plan for Pennsylvania on Friday, meaning more businesses can reopen.
The city says some vehicles have stayed in parking spots all day and has led to complaints from restaurants that take out customers have having trouble finding parking downtown.
Enforcement of parking meters was suspended in mid-March when the city shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Pittsburgh Parking Authority has announced that the first half-hour of parking will be free to help customers getting take-out or picking up at businesses.
When you pull into a spot you must enter your license plate information into the nearest parking kiosk or using the PPA’s app to park uncharged for 30 minutes.
Each vehicle will only get one free half hour per day.
Residential permit parking enforcement and parking meters will continue to remain unenforced in other city neighborhoods and business districts.
Last week, Police began once again citing and towing vehicles blocking fire hydrants, wheel chair access ramps and intersections of travel lanes.
