PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Officials at the University of Pittsburgh are taking steps to curb sexual assaults after an alarming new survey.

About 15 percent of Pitt students took part in the survey. And the results are eye-opening.

Of those 15 percent, nearly 65 percent thought it was very or extremely likely that campus officials would take reports of sexual assault seriously. But that doesn't seem to be enough of a deterrent for offenders.

Nearly 32 percent of undergraduate women reported some type of non-consensual sexual contact.

More than five percent of students surveyed believed it was very – or extremely – likely they would become a victim of sexual assault themselves.

They'll begin hosting listening sessions soon.

Pitt was one of 33 universities to participate in the survey.
