Several Pittsburgh area businesses are among those that received warnings and violation notices from the Pennsylvania State Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement as a result of recent COVID-19 mitigation compliance checks.

Between August 3 and 4, officers made checks of 1,244 businesses. Six Pittsburgh area businesses received warnings and one received a notice of violation.

Restaurants and bars with liquor licenses must follow these rules, among others, to remain in compliance:

  • Require all customers to wear masks while entering, exiting or otherwise traveling throughout the restaurant or retail food service business (face masks may be removed while seated). Further, employees are required to wear masks at all times.
  • Provide at least six feet between parties at tables or physical barriers between customers where booths are arranged back to back.
  • Ensure maximum occupancy limits for indoor and outdoor areas are posted and enforced.

Violations could lead to a citation. Continued violations may also result in the loss of the establishment's liquor license.

Since July 1, more than 5,800 Pittsburgh area businesses were checked. 44 of those have received warnings and two received violation notices.
