PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - It’s not just going to be extremely cold; it’s going to be brutally and dangerously cold. Tuesday night will usher in the coldest temperatures of the season with lows close to 0.

CLOSINGS AND DELAYS

AccuWeather meteorologist Elliot Abrams broke down the next few days to KDKA Radio’s Larry and John.

“(Monday) night’s going down to 27. We could get a covering to an inch or two of snow then temperatures will fall to the teens late tomorrow, down toward 0 tomorrow night and then during the day Wednesday temperatures hard pressed to get much above 0 to 5 degrees,” said Abrams.

A low Wednesday night of -4 is expected. The coldest low ever recorded in Pittsburgh is -22 degrees. That happened on January 19, 1994.

LATEST WEATHER

Abrams adds we won’t recover much Thursday with a high of only 9 expected.

There is some good news though. The area will get up above freezing over the weekend and could possibly have a high in the mid-50s next Monday.
