PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Tuesday is the first day of the Year of the Pig, as the Spring Festival of the Chinese New Year begins.

The Pig is the 12th animal in the Chinese zodiac, and is a symbol of wealth.

Marian Lien, President of Pittsburgh's Organization for Chinese Americans, tells Larry and John on KDKA Radio it's a good time to grab a lottery ticket... and clean the house!

“You want to clean out anything that might be in the way of good luck coming in with the New Year,” said Lien

Lein also has some advice on how you can increase your luck.

“You want to wear red to keep bright and happy, you certainly don’t want to wear white and that’s the one color you defiantly want to take out of the wardrobe these next 15 days.”

Red is considered a lucky color in Chinese culture. White and black are considered unlucky.

The celebration lasts 15 days. You can celebrate locally during a parade in Squirrel Hill on February 17.
