PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — 21 tons of free mulch will be available to Pittsburgh residents starting this weekend.
It was all generated in just one month by the city's free Christmas Tree Recycling Program.
Pittsburgh's Department of Public Works Environmental Services bureau, its Forestry Division, and local Girl Scout troops helped collect the trees at ten different locations.
Residents can start picking up the pine mulch this weekend. They will need to bring their own buckets, gloves and shovels.
It will be distributed every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Forestry Division headquarters in Highland Park at 6520 Stanton Ave.
This will continue through April 20 while supplies last.
Pine mulch is good for blueberry bushes and vegetables gardens, as well as moisture and weed control.
