PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh City Council is considering an outright ban on pet alligators, crocodiles and venomous snakes.
Councilman Bruce Kraus introduced the ordinance Tuesday to replace one drafted by former councilwoman Darlene Harris that would require the animals be registered and confined at all times.
Kraus claims his version is more humane, and that current owners of the banned animals would be grandfathered in if they have insurance.
Several alligators were seen and captured around the city last summer.
