PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh has released its plan for students to return to the classroom next month.

The plan includes things like daily temperature checks for students, staff and teachers.

Buildings will be disinfected each day. Visitors and volunteers will be limited.

Sports will have to adhere to social distancing guidelines. The plan doesn’t say if fans will be allowed to attend sporting events.

Classes will begin in person with a virtual option for students when classes begin on August 27 for elementary students.

High Schools will have a staggered start.

“As a faith community committed to our mission, we will respond to the fluid nature of this public health emergency with recommendations that reflect science, consultation with experts and consistency with Catholic social teaching,” said Michelle Peduto, Director of Catholic Schools.

“Our top priority is the safe return of our students to their classrooms. In that spirit, we will be following the guidance and requirements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Office of the Governor and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.”

The plan still needs feedback from parents, teachers and consultants.
