PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – City of Pittsburgh officials are making plans for all the traffic and trash expected when thousands of celebrants converge on the South Side following the St. Patrick's Day parade. Pittsburgh's celebration is planned for Saturday, March 16 this year.

City Council President Bruce Kraus represents much of the South Side. He says officials have decided to add a second shuttle service that will run from city-owned parking garages at South Side Works. A shuttle has run for several years from the First Avenue T-stop and Second Avenue parking lot to the South Side.

"We want to open those garages up and provide a second shuttle that if you choose to come down, park there. We'll at least be able to get you into the historic district down to 21st Street," said Kraus. Officials say on street meters and residential parking regulations will be enforced.

Public urination is also an issue for St Patrick's Day on the South Side. So Kraus says about $3,000 from the city's Parking Enhancement District will pay for 45 additional portable toilets to be set up in surface lots along East Carson Street.

Additional contractors will be on the cleanup job picking up trash after the celebration

. Surge pricing is expected to be in effect for ride sharing services Uber and Lyft but both will be offering special codes for rider discounts with 20,000 to 30,000 people are expected on the South Side following the St. Patrick's Day Parade that steps off at 10 a.m.
