PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Bridgeville is now home to Pittsburgh's first vending machine for cars.
Located at 1300 Brockwell Street, the Carvana vending machine allows customers to pick up pre-purchased cars.
Carvana co-found Ryan Keeton says they didn't want the machine, which is 8 stories high and holds 27 vehicles, to be a dealership in disguise.
“It’s glass, it’s very high tech, it’s very own brand and it’s an experience that customers really, really love. It’s an event,” said Keeton. “Their friends and family come, they’re capturing everything, it’s really great to see.”
Customers purchase their car online, schedule a vending machine pickup and receive a special coin.
“You go up to this cool receptacle, put that coin in and the machine comes to life. It goes all the way up grabs your car automatically, brings it all the way down, the doors open and then you’re able to see your car.”
The customer is then able to take the car on a 7-day test drive.
Pittsburgh is the 18th city to offer the service.
