PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – A protest is planned for the Mckees Rocks, Stowe and Kennedy Township areas this Sunday afternoon.

According to organizers, the "Peaceful Protest" is set to start at McKees Rocks Plaza at Linden and Chartiers Avenue.

Kennedy Township Police are requesting that protester stay peaceful and "respect everybody's safety and property."

They also ask if you are not participating in the event to avoid main roads in in the area so protesters can move safely.

The protest will most likely make its way up Broadway Avenue onto Pine Hollow Road, ending near Kenmawr Plaza.

In a note, Chief of Police Anthony Bruni says "The services Kennedy Township Police Department usually provide may be impacted during this time. It is up to you to lawfully take all precautions necessary to protest yourselves, customers and property."

Dozens of protests have taken place around the Pittsburgh area since the death of George Floyd while in police custody with an overwhelming amount of them being peaceful.

The one exception took place on May 30 when a group of people broke off from a larger group of protesters in Downtown Pittsburgh causing property damage and attacking police vehicles and throwing debris at officers.

Several people have been identified and/or arrested in that incident.

Other protests are scheduled this weekend in Cranberry, Greensburg, Downtown Pittsburgh and Washington.
