PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — The construction of the $32 million I-579 “cap” urban connector begins tonight with the closure of the ramp from I-579 North to 7th Avenue.
PennDOT’s Steve Cowan tells KDKA Radio detours will be posted.
“Instead of using the ramp to Seventh Avenue, [drivers will] take the Centre Avenue off-ramp and make a series of right turns ... back to Seventh Avenue.”
He says motorists will see heavier delays in the first couple weeks of the closure as crews adjust the timing of traffic signals in the area, specifically on the Liberty Bridge.
