PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Last July WQED’s Rick Sebak announced his next program in the crowd-funded “Nebby” series would be a return to Kennywood Memories.

Sebak said “That Kennywood Summer” would take a look back at the over 40 hours of unused footage he shot for the original documentary that debuted in 1988 and was scheduled for a September release.

But in September, Sebak severely injured his leg putting him on the shelf for months.

Fans of the filmmaker have been getting a little “nebby” themselves asking Sebak when “That Kennywood Summer” would finally see the light of day.

Well we now that Sebak is recovered we finally have an answer.

WQED announced Thursday “That Kennywood Summer” will debut January 24 at 8:00 p.m.

Sebak told KDKA Radio last year that the original Kennywood memories just turned 30 years old so, “I said wouldn’t it be fun to celebrate that anniversary.”

Even without the injury, his latest in the “Nebby” series has been a labor of love. Sebak and his crew had to covert the over 40 hours of tapes into computers.

“The assistant editors Anne and Andrew and Amy . . . have been loading the footage into our computer editing system,” said Sebak. “It’s not hi-def, it’s not wide-screen, it’s old school but it should be fun to see some of this stuff.”
