PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Get set for another major highway project in Pittsburgh; work is about to begin on the Boulevard of the Allies between the Liberty Bridge and Oakland.

The first section to get milling and repaving is between the Birmingham Bridge and Bates St. says PennDOT's Steve Cowan.

“The work is primarily at night. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. it’ll be a single lane restriction in each direction.”

The work starts Thursday night in an attempt to get the work done before Pitt students return.

Work on the final section between the Liberty and Birmingham Bridges will start in the fall.

Also look for sidewalk restrictions around Washington Pl. and Chatham St. as initial work starts on the I-579 Cap Project near PPG Paints Arena.
