PITTSBURGH, PA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Robert Levin is coming out of retirement, saving the furniture company bearing his name from going out of business.

Art Van Furniture bought Levin's 33 stores in 2017.

Today, Art Van announced it is shutting down operations and liquidating assets.

Mr. Levin stepped in last night to buy the company back, saving the jobs of about 15-hundred employees.

In a statement, Levin calls the workers "at risk of losing their jobs... the most loyal, dedicated and hardworking people I’ve ever known.”

Customer deposits and purchases are unaffected.

The first Levin Furniture store opened in Mt. Pleasant in 1920. Later this year, the company celebrates its 100-year anniversary.
