WASHINGTON (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General and supervisor of the Russia probe into the 2016 presidential election, will step down.

CBS News confirms he plans to depart after William Barr’s expected confirmation as Attorney General.

CBS News Correspondent Paula Reid reports Rosenstein “always saw this as a two-year position and wants to ensure a smooth transition.”

It is unclear who will receive oversight of the special counsel investigation.

Barr has previously criticized the probe that Rosenstein has been supervising since appointing Robert Mueller.
