HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There are complaints from small business owners and self-employed people who say the state’s new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance website has too many glitches and confusing messages.

And that’s before they learn they’ll have to return to the site later to complete their application and actually get some money.

NFIB, an organization representing 13,000 small business owners in Pennsylvania calls it inexcusable.

State officials had to set up a separate site for people who would not normally qualify for unemployment benefits.

The state acknowledges it rushed to open the site once the federal money became available.

The state says that the PUA system has been corrected and encourage those who had trouble in the past try filing again.

A message on the website says: “If you still receive the below ineligibility message, then you may be eligible for regular unemployment compensation and are appropriately receiving this message that you are not eligible to apply for PUA at this time.”

“Our records indicate you may be eligible for an unemployment insurance claim by going to uc.pa.gov or by contacting us. You are not eligible to file an unemployment insurance claim on this system.”

The state says additional guidance will be provided in the “near future.”
