PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Fans going to the Steelers pre-season opener Friday night will need their smart phones.

Printed tickets will not be accepted, and neither will screenshots of tickets.

Some fans used to take mobile phone screen shots of their tickets.

To reduce fraud Ticketmaster now constantly changes bar codes so a screen shot may not work.

“This year what fans will see is that the barcodes that are actually on the their digital tickets are constantly changing that that means if you take a screen shot of it it’s probably not going to work by the time you get to the gate because it will be a totally different bar code,” said Steelers Nick Sero on KDKA Radio.

Sero says the team's mobile app makes ticketing more convenient.

“Transfer tickets by texting them to your friends, emailing them to your friends, pull them up really quickly,” said Sero. “There’s even a quick way to put them back up and try to resell them if you need to.”

Ticket holders will need to download the Steelers mobile app or visit the ticket window. Card stock tickets distributed by the Steelers will be accepted.

In addition, the navigation app Waze has partnered with Heinz Field for traffic and parking.

The pre-sold lots at Heinz Field open at 2:30, gates open at 5:30 p.m. and kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
