UNIONTOWN, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A student who approached a school counselor after being bullied last week said that he thought about bringing a gun to school.
The school responded by suspending him and alerting State Police.
Police did not Charge 14-year-old Tyler Hellein with a crime and after his father Chuck spoke with school officials Monday, Tyler will return to class Tuesday.
Chuck tells KDKA Radio’s Marty and Wendy the suspension will not be reflected on Tyler’s record when he looks at colleges.
“I didn’t want him suffering the rest of his life with this . . . or hanging over his head for a while,” said the older Hellein. “How (the school) handled it should have been different. I don’t really think he should’ve missed all the school that he did, you know four days out was a little bit extreme.
Tyler says his friends are supporting and one of his friends is starting a petition that will show the Laurel Highlands student body is supporting him.
The younger Hellein adds he knows how serious it is to talk about a gun in school but is moving on from the incident and will continue to talk to his counselors outside school.
Chuck says Tyler doesn’t know the students who bullied him personally but it will be addressed by officials Tuesday.
