STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A man matching the description of a fugitive college student wanted in the killings of two people in Connecticut has been spotted in northeastern Pennsylvania, but an hours-long search overnight came up empty.

Police in Duryea, Pennsylvania, say a firefighter spotted a man with a large black backpack behind a business shortly after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, but he fled.

Authorities say the man fit the description of University of Connecticut senior 23-year-old Peter Manfredonia, who reportedly was last seen Sunday about 50 miles away in East Stroudsburg, PA.

PA State Police say a black Hyundai Santa Fe was stolen in the same area Manfredonia was last seen. That vehicle was recovered near a Sheetz convenience store in Chambersburg, PA Wednesday.

A new tip puts the suspect in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Police say the black bag, that could have weapons in it, is still in his possession and he was last seen wearing red shoes.
