PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There have been 46 positive tests in the past week at the University of Pittsburgh and 50 students are now in isolation, up from 11 the week before.
There were no new cases among faculty.
Students living off-campus have 75 percent of all COVID-19 cases at the school. The university's COVID dashboard shows some of those students with ten of more close contacts, indicating they may have attended larger parties.
The overall prevalence among incoming students is low with a positive rate of 0.3%.
Pitt will now go to twice-weekly random testing. A statement says the next few weeks will be crucial to controlling the virus on campus.
An upward trend, the university says, likely reflects unsafe off-campus social gatherings without face coverings or physical distancing.
Peters Township High School is temporarily canceling in-person classes after a confirmed COVID-19 case and two more presumed positive.
And Pittsburgh Public Schools says two Montessori PreK-5 employees are exhibiting coronavirus symptoms.
