CLAIRTON, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Allegheny County Health Department has issued more fines against U.S. Steel for air pollution violets.
The health department says the violations occurred at the Clairton Coke Works during the second and third quarters of 2019.
The fines total $743,625 with 90 percent going to the Community Benefit Trust for impacted communities and the other 10 percent will go to the Clean Air Fund.
The fines were calculated in accordance with the agreement between the ACHD and U.S. Steel last June.

In December, U.S. Steel came to an agreement to pay Clairton residents $2 million in a lawsuit that alleged the company’s negligence and resulting pollution interfered with residents’ quality of life.
The Steel maker also said at the time they will spend another $6.5 million to upgrade equipment at the Coke Works.
