PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Steelworkers stood and cheered as U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt announced a more than $1 billion investment developing what’s called an endless casting and rolling facility at the Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock.
Burritt says it’s the first of its a kind in the United States streamlining the process and reducing emissions.
“I have never more confident in the future than I am right now at U.S. Steel,” said Burritt. “This investment has something for everyone.”
The Steelworkers Union expects no jobs will be lost with the technology. The first products are expected to roll off the assembly line in 2022.
