(Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - U.S. Steel said on Friday that they plan to idle some of its operations at their Great Lake Works in Detroit.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that iron and steelworking operations will idle starting in April and other facilities by the end of next year.

CEO David Burritt said that moving production from the site in Michigan to U.S Steel's Gary Works in Indiana will increase company efficiency.

Around 1,500 workers will be notified but Burritt anticipates that less will actually be effected by the idling.
