PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A bar in West View is facing criticism after a Twitter video filmed on Tuesday appears to show a man call another man the N-word as he walked by the bar.

The video shot on Tuesday was taken by a white man and also owns a business in the area.

Alex Simmons, a black man, shared his friend's video of the owner of Wiegands Bar, using the word as Simmons’ friend walked by.

The person filming the video asks the owner to repeat himself and the owner walks out of the bar with what appears to be a hammer saying he is defending his property.

The video then ends. It is believed no physical altercation took place.

Simmons, who also owns a business right near Wiegands tells KDKA Radio this isn’t the first time this has happened and that he was called a racial slur by the owner back in February. He says he reported it but nothing was done.

Police visited Simmons’ business on Tuesday and asked if he could “calm the waters” that the officer “doesn’t want the block being burnt down.”

The officer also said he was fine with being videotaped and says he is doing his best to change the bar owner.

“All I can do is talk, that’s all I’m trying to do,” the officer said.

The officer and Simmons both agree that they want West View to be successful but Simmons doubts the owner of Wiegands will change.

Protesters were spotted outside of the bar on Wednesday with signs that said “Black Lives Matter” and other messages.
