On Your Marks: Marathon Weekend Is Here

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Runners rejoice; the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is this weekend.

Beginning with the free Health and Fitness Expo Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Running events start Saturday with the 5K and kids marathon.

The full marathon is on Sunday.

Director Patrice Matamoros tells Larry and John on KDKA Radio, even spectators have fun.

“When they choose a marathon runner’s check for crowd support and Pittsburgh always does, they come out and they cheer for runners,” said Matamoros. “It makes it a really great day.

Runners will hear cheers through 13 city neighborhoods.

The course, and how to get around it, is available for motorists on the Waze app,

Roads will close and reopen on a rolling basis until 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
