President Scraps Standardized Testing for the Rest of the Year, But Which Tests?

Standardized Test Paper

I was listening this afternoon to the President during his Coronavirus Task Force briefing when he said something that piqued my attention: "We will be discontinuing school standardized testing for the rest of the year," he told reporters.

Wait. What? What kind of standardized tests? The tests my middle schoolers take? The tests my high schooler takes? SAT? ACT? AP tests, too?

There's only one place to turn when I have college-testing questions. David Cerniglia, co-owner of 3R Prep out of Ambridge. I asked him what he understood about the President's words, and what David told me was remarkably helpful.

Here's what David told me, after he spoke with the folks from the College Board (who decide such things).

All SAT and ACT tests through June have been canceled, and there should be some additional tests dates added to the calendar for students wanting the take the SAT. No word yet if there will be extra test dates for students interested in the ACT.

Students in IB and AP classes might really like the sound of this. The College Board has decided to shorten the IB and AP course and will remove 20-25% of the material on the tests, which will be shortened to 45 minutes and be taken at home. Students who no longer want to take the tests will be provided a refund.

WHEW!

With students at home indefinitely, now's a great time to hunker down and study! (Could you feel my sons roll their eyes at me for saying that? I did.)

Good luck!
