Film and TV production is booming in Pittsburgh.
Nineteen projects have expressed serious interest this year.
Dawn Keezer, Director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, thinks 6-8 of the projects will go into production.
"Southwestern Pennsylvania is lucky because we're one of the top 10 destinations for people wanting to make film and television," she said.
What's attracting producers? Local workers with industry experience, diversity in locations, and Pittsburgh is far less expensive than other markets.
And there's a significant tax incentive. $70 million is available and the Film Office is very hopeful it will increase.
The Pittsburgh Film Office estimates producers have brought over $100 million a year to the region's economy over the last five years, except 2020.
Keezer says financial statements show where film companies are spending money and what they're spending it on more than hotel rooms, restaurants and rental cars.
"It's the local dry cleaner, it's the local water supplier, it's the local lumber yard - they're spending this money locally with local businesses."
There's another benefit: Keezer thinks there's very good opportunity for local talent to be cast on these projects.
