PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Box Office News: Good news out of the box office this week, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings confirmed that there is a willing theater audience by hauling in an impressive $35.8 million sophomore weekend.
This weeks wide realeases include Clint Eastwood's Cry Macho and action flick Copshop starring Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo giving theater goers another reason to head to the theater. Also in limited release are two interesting films that have been on the radar for some time, Tammy Faye Bakker biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (Jessica Chastain) and Justin Chon's drama Blue Bayou (Alicia Vikander).
Cry Macho (PG-13)
Starring - Clint Eastwood and Dwight Yoakam
Based on the novel that was based on his script, Eastwood brings N. Richard Nash's Cry Macho to the big screen. In 1988, Clint Eastwood was going to star in Cry Macho but backed out to reprise his role as Dirty Harry in The Dead Pool. Thirty plus years later Eastwood Produces, Directs and Stars in the lead role of Mike Milo. Eastwood films have a definite look, feel and sound to them and it's a style I love. The 91 year old wears his character like a comfortable shirt. If you liked the last three Eastwood offerings you will not be disappointed in Cry Macho.
Copshop (R)
Starring - Frank Grillo and Gerard Butler
On the run from lethal assassin Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler), con man Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo), devises a plan to hide out in a local police station lock-up. When Viddick turns up at the precinct, an unsuspecting rookie cop (Alexis Louder) finds herself in the crosshairs.
Copshop burns slowly as the action and suspense ramps up thanks in part to a smart script, sharp direction, strong cast with Louder chewing up more than a couple of scenes. The film doesn't add anything new to the genre with noir hints of Tarantino and Carpenter but there's fun and entertainment to be had.
