Everyone’s favorite purple dinosaur is making a comeback next year.

Mattel announced on Monday they are relaunching the Barney the Dinosaur franchise.

The original live-action series ran from 1992 through 2010, was aimed at educating preschool and kindergarten students.

No word on his Barney’s friends Baby Bop, BJ and Riff will join him on the new show.

A new, animated series is expected to debut in 2024. Along with the series comes film, YouTube videos, music and various products.

“Barney’s message of love and kindness has stood the test of time,” said Josh Silverman, Chief Franchise Officer and Global Head of Consumer Products at Mattel. “We will tap into the nostalgia of the generations who grew up with Barney, now parents themselves, and introduce the iconic purple dinosaur to a new generation of kids and families around the world across content, products, and experiences.”

Barney is the latest Mattel property to be revived. The toy company had success relaunching Monster High and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchises.
