‘Murder, She Wrote’ star Angela Lansbury dies at 96

Angela Lansbury, star of film and stage has died at 96, according to her family and the New York Times.

“The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday," her family said in a statement.

Throughout her illustrious career Lansbury won five Tony Awards. Her last was in 2009 for best featured actress in a play for Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit.”

From 1984 to 1996 played mystery writer Jessica Fletcher on the hit CBS Sunday night television show “Murder, She Wrote.”

In 1996 Lansbury was inducted into the TV Hall of Fame.

Lansbury famously voiced the animated character Mrs. Pott in Disney’s 1991 musical “Beauty and the Best.”

She was nominated for three Best Supporting Actress Oscars and in 2013 she was awarded the Academy Honor Award.

Lansbury is survived by three children, Anthony, Deirdre, and David, and three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine, and Ian, as well as five great grandchildren.
