PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Finally! That is what thousands of children around Pittsburgh are saying this snowy Friday.
After a relatively dry winter, 3 to 4 inches of snow fell around the area, closing schools and prompting kids to pick up their sleds and snow boots.
Until Friday, only nine days have had an inch or more of snow since October 1, the least since 2008 and the 7th fewest on record.
But that all changed on Friday when the amount of snow that fell equaled about 25 percent of the entire snowfall for the season.
Kids around the area put on their snow suits to sled, make snow angels and snowmen followed of course by a trip inside for a cup of hot chocolate.
For a pair of twins in Robinson Township, it was their first experience ever in the snow. Their mother says the two toddlers lasted about 10 minutes before they decided they had enough.
Even a Pittsburgh K9 officer got in on the fun.
AccuWeather says enjoy the snow while you can because more rain is on the way later this weekend into early next week and there is a chance of some mixed precipitation late next week.
