PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A dog that was lost for over 12 years has finally be reunited with her owner.

14-year-old Fox Terrier "Dutchess" was originally from South Florida and disappeared as a puppy on February 28, 2007.

Then after traveling over 1,000 miles over 12 years, on October 8, a property owner in Carnegie discovered Dutchess under a shed shivering.

The property owner, who does not want to be identified, took Dutchess to the Humane Animal Rescue on the North Side where she underwent an exam.

A microchip was discovered that traced Dutchess back to Boca Raton, FL where her owners live.

When officials called owner Katheryn Strang she said, "I can't believe you're calling me right now. I can't believe this is happening."

Strang drove to all the way to Pittsburgh for an emotional reunion with Dutchess on Friday.

She'd been paying the monthly fee on the microchip every year in the hopes she'd find Dutchess again.

Humane Animal Rescue reminds people this is a good example of how important it is to get your pet microchipped and will offer half off microchips at both of their locations through the end of the month.
