PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Heavy rains and flooding has caused a large sinkhole to open near McKnight road.

Listener Ray Feather tells KDKA Radio it is at McKnight Road at the circle in Ross Park Dr.

Feather adds it appears the sinkhole is increasing in size. It is right near the Waldorf apartments and the Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Ross Township Public Works Director Michael Funk says it was a large underground storm water pipe that ruptured.

The pipe is 48 to 60 inches in diameter. The sinkhole does not affect McKnight Road.
