Everyone is awesome!
With June being Pride Month, LEGO has announced its first LGBTQIA+ themed set, according to USA Today.
Available on June 1, the set, called “Everyone is Awesome,” includes 11 monochrome characters that mirror the classic rainbow flag iconography first utilized by the gay liberation movement in the 1970s.
As designer Matthew Ashton explains, the set’s color scheme will also include black and brown colors to “represent the broad diversity of everyone within the LGBTQIA+ community.” There will also be pale blue, white, and pink characters representing the transgender community, and a purple drag queen figure.
“Everyone is unique, and with a little more love, acceptance and understanding in the world, we can all feel more free to be our true AWESOME selves!” Ashton added. “This model shows that we care, and that we truly believe ‘Everyone is awesome’!”
He continued: "The starting point for this was my feeling that we, as a society, could be doing more to show support for each other and appreciate our differences… Being LGBTQIA+ myself, I knew I needed to step up to the plate and make a real statement about love and inclusivity."
Ashton, vice president of design for the LEGO Group, has developed multiple sets, and was involved in executive production of "The Lego Movie."

"I think by taking small steps and having products like 'Everyone is Awesome' out there...it allows everybody to see that things do get better over time and there is a place for everybody,” said Ashton.
“I was one of the lucky ones who was able to come out and had people there to support me. But there are so many that face so much discrimination, hate, or violence. With this set I just want to make sure that we’re showing a bit of love and support to everybody who needs it."
The 346-piece “Everyone Is Awesome” set will be available through LEGO.com and LEGO branded stores, with a recommended retail price of $34.99.
The name of the new set is of course a takeoff on the awesome LEGO movie theme song, “Everything is Awesome,” by Tegan and Sara.
