12-year-old and woman hit by vehicle near Westinghouse Academy

Police say alcohol may have been a factor

Police are investigating after a 12-year-old boy and a woman were hit by a car in Homewood West Wednesday afternoon.

Pittsburgh Police say it happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Monticello and North Murtland Streets.

First responders found the boy and female on a sidewalk next to Westinghouse Academy.

The boy suffered “traumatic injuries” to his lower extremities and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He was immediately taken into surgery.

The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation shows the driver of the vehicle was going southbound on North Murtland when she made a right turn onto Monticello.

She kept driving to the right, jumping the curb and hitting the victims on the sidewalk.

Police believe alcohol may be a factor in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and cooperated with police. An investigation is ongoing.
