UPDATE: The 13-year-old suspect is back in Allegheny County Jail.
A 13-year-old accused of shooting and killing another 13-year-old is not currently behind bars.
Laquan Rich-Cabbagestalk is accused of shooting 13-year-old Chase Jones Monday night in the 400 block of Wilson Avenue before 9:30 p.m. in Clairton.
The Big K Morning Show’s Marty Griffin says court documents show no bail was set and Rich-Cabbagestalk was released in night court overnight.
Rich-Cabbagestalk is facing charges of criminal homicide and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Griffin says the gun was stolen and that the boy admitted to shooting the other before fleeing.
A criminal complaint says the two were playing video games at the time.
With the suspect being 13, he can’t stay at Allegheny County Jail and there is currently no juvenile detention center open in Allegheny County.
Griffin says he doesn’t know what is happening in this specific case but has heard of past cases involving juveniles arrested on gun charges whose parents refuse to pick them up.
In some cases they are sent to Western Psychiatric when that happens.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 27.
