Two people have been charged with hate crimes in connection with a string of anti-Semitic graffiti incidents at Jewish institutions throughout Squirrel Hill earlier this year.

Mohamad Hamad of Coraopolis and Tayla Lubit of Oakland are both charged with conspiracy and defacing or damaging religious property according to the criminal complaint.

The graffiti appeared overnight July 28.

“Jews For Palestine” was spray painted on a wall at Chabad of Squirrel Hill, a sign outside of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh was defaced and read funds genocide and several We Stand with Israel yard signs were vandalized.

Hamad is a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and stationed in Moon.

Investigators say he has been barred from the facility since mid-September.

The arrests come as the Israel-Hamas war enters its second year.
