Two violent, separate incidents leave two dead in Indiana County Sunday

One man is dead in an officer-involved shooting in Grant Twp., another after a stabbing in Burrell Twp.

Two people are dead after separate, violent incidents in Indiana County Sunday, including one dead after an officer-involved shooting.

A man was killed in an exchange of gunfire with State Police Sunday night in Indiana County.

Pennsylvania State Troopers responding to a reported assault say the man opened fire on them at a home on Dixonville Road in Grant Township around 5 p.m.

The man, who has yet to be identified, reportedly started a fire inside his house, then climbed onto the roof and fired the shotgun at responding officers, who fired back, killing the man.

The troopers are on administrative duty while the shooting is being investigated.

And, an Indiana County woman is charged with homicide and aggravated assault following a deadly stabbing Sunday night in Burrell Township.

State Police were called to a home along Pender Avenue say Jessica Morelli was found with man who had been stabbed multiple times.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, died after being taken to Allegheny General.

It is unclear what led to the stabbing.

Morelli is being held in the Indiana County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
