Pittsburgh's Juneteenth holiday celebration includes concert performances starting Monday afternoon at the Point.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the date on which enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news they were free.

This was two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, one year after the Senate passed the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery.

Pennsylvania made Juneteenth an official state holiday in 2019, it became a federal holiday in 2021.

Juneteenth celebrations at Point State Park Downtown include The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m., Phyllis Hyman Tribute Band at 5 p.m., R&B group RUFF ENDZ at6:30 p.m., The Ohio Players at 8 p.m. and Pittsburgh's first-ever Juneteenth Fireworks at 935.
