2025 Election Day: Many important races in 'off-year'

Tuesday, November 4 is Election Day, and with this being an off-year election, many people won’t exercise their right to vote.

But, there are some very important races.

In Pittsburgh, a new mayor will be decided as Democrat Corey O’Connor, who defeated incumbent Ed Gainey during the primary, will face Republican Tony Moreno.

Three PA Supreme Court Justices are also up for retention. A large amount of money is being spent in Pennsylvania, trying to sway voters one way or the other.

Conservative groups want voters to vote no on Justices  Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht.

If removed, Democrats would lose a 5-2 majority.

It would also mean PA’s Supreme Court will remain deadlocked at 2-2 until 2027, when the next election takes place.

It’s rare for a justice to not be retained. The last time it happened in Pennsylvania was in 1968.

Other races voters will see on their ballot on Tuesday include voting for the Superior Court, Commonwealth Court, Court of Common Pleas.

Some municipal races are happening, as well as the race for Allegheny County Sheriff and others.
