Get Marty: Three World War II veterans get free tree service for Veterans Day

This is how one company is giving back to WWII veterans as we celebrate Veterans Day

Veterans Day weekend is kicking off with the sound of rustling leaves and chainsaws. My friend Carlos McClintock has been busy today with his crews from Greater Pitt Tree Service. They've been out doing free work for three different World War II veterans around the Pittsburgh region.

Watch the video below to meet one of them, an amazing woman who had a pivotal role turning the tide against the Nazis and defeating the German U-boat submarines.

Julia Parsons was one of the U.S. Navy code breakers who was able to unscramble communications from German submarines that helped the allies get the upper hand and turn the war effort around.  No one even knew of her role until after it was declassified decades later because the same encryption systems were still being used.

We met Julia at her home in Forest Hills where Carlos and his team are making her home safer by cutting away some of the dead tree limbs that have been hanging over her house.

It's a job that normally would have cost several thousand dollars, but Greater Pitt Tree Service is doing it all for zero dollars. That's right, Carlos says it's simply because he wants to give back and that's what we've seen him do up close and personal for the last several years.

It's pretty amazing when people step up to help others in the community and that's something Carlos says he's committed to keep doing.
