60 years later, the Kecksburg UFO incident remains a mystery

The annual Kecksburg UFO festival is this weekend

60 years ago, calls started coming into KDKA Radio from people claiming they saw a UFO in the area.

The annual Kecksburg UFO Festival is this weekend and commemorates the day in December 1965 when many claimed they saw a UFO crash into the woods outside the town of Kecksburg in Mt. Pleasant Township.

The object was reportedly seen in parts of Canada, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania before crashing in Westmoreland County.

Greensburg native Stan Gordon has been investigating the alleged UFO crash since.

Gordon tells The Big K Morning Show how it crashed in our area.

“This object moved from the Pittsburgh area, it moved into Westmoreland County, it moved into the City of Greensburg and made a turn to the south, seem by people all along those rural communities, it went out to Laurelville, reportedly kind of hesitated over the mountains, began to track back outside of Kecksburg, made another turn and dropped down into the woods.”

Gordon says some of the people nearby went to see what crashed and saw a “large metallic, acorn-shaped object” with no weld marks or rivets with “odd symbols” on the back of the object.

Then, witness claim the object was recovered by the United States military and was taken away in the middle of the night.

After that, it’s all a mystery.

Asked if he believes in UFOs himself, Gordon says he doesn't rule it being something from beyond our Earth.

The festival will support the local volunteer fire department with plenty of activities, food, drinks music and more.

And, of course, there will be a UFO Conference with Gordon and other guests.
