8 Rabbits abandoned and left to die found in Armstrong County

A humane police officer in Armstrong County is asking for help finding the person(s) responsible for leaving eight rabbits to die on a gas well road.

Human officer Chris Jirak O’Donnell says a family that was going fishing at Keystone Lake in Rural Valley, came across the abandoned Angora rabbits and contacted 911.

The rabbits were taken to BunRabit’s Rescue in Greenburg, where they were saved and treated.

The rescue’s manager found the rabbits had bite wounds, thin bodies and one of the animals had a broken toe.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Officer O’Donnell at 724-954-9515.

"This was an incredibly cruel act. These animals had no chance of survival. And, the rabbits' conditions would likely have made it a very long, slow death," said O'Donnell.

Any possible criminal charges are pending the results of a veterinary exam.

Anyone that wants to help the rescue financially can find information here.
