Utility workers are in the spotlight this week.
Hundreds of thousands of residents who lost power in Tuesday’s historic storm have depended on the efforts of utility crews so they can get back to a normal life.
Utility workers restore electric service in bad weather conditions or at night, often high up on poles.
Just over 25 utility employees die on the job annually and over 400 are injured so their safety is the top priority when live power lines are down. It takes longer to restore service when there are tens of thousands hazard reports.
It is also one reason why it will take several days to restore most electric service
Over 22,000 hazard incidents were reported after the storm with some complaining they’re still in the dark. It is frustrating, but remember, a historic number of people lost power this week. Utility workers are working around the clock to get power back to everyone.
We want to say thank you to everyone who has been working to get our roads cleared, debris removed and power back online.
