A dozen Rite Aid locations now set to close around western PA

Another round of closures is coming for some Southwestern Pennsylvania Rite Aid locations, after the pharmacy company announced another round of closures.

Grove City – West Main Street
Apollo – North Plaza
Ford City – Fifth Avenue
Connellsville – Memorial Boulevard
Burgettstown – Main Street
Kittanning – Butler Road
Mercer – Franklin Street
Pittsburgh – Carrick – Brownsville
Pittsburgh – Lawrenceville – Butler Street

The following store closures were announced previously:

Belle Vernon – Rostraver Road
Oakland – Atwood Street
Pittsburgh International Airport

Rite Aid is trying to sell all of its locations and any that are not sold, will eventually close down.

No shutdown date has been announced, but the locations listed above will close sooner than later.

Rite Aid customers have until June 6 to use any gift cards and June 4 is the deadline for exchanges and returns.

With all Rite Aid locations under threat of closing for good, that leaves some communities without a pharmacy.

One of those towns is Derry, in Westmoreland County.

The Derry Council isn't sure exactly when their store will close but if it does, council president Barbara Philips says it will be devastating.

“A lot of our citizens don’t have reliable transportation, they don’t have access to internet and being an older population, a lot of them are uncomfortable using the internet to order their prescriptions and so forth,” said Philips.

Philips also says that the Rite Aid is the only store for staples such as milk and bread
