PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He was a thumper, a downhill linebacker popular in the locker room and apparently back with the Steelers. First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, linebacker Elandon Roberts will sign a one-year deal to return to Pittsburgh.
Roberts overcame injuries to play in 33 games with 147 tackles (92 solo) including 15 tackles for loss in two seasons with the Steelers.
The 32-year-old played last year in Las Vegas for new Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen mentioned Roberts and the positive things he said about playing for Graham with the Raiders.
In one season with Graham in Vegas Roberts had 90 tackles (42 solo) with six tackles for loss in 16 starts. Roberts previously won a Super Bowl with New England and also played for the Dolphins.
Currently the Steelers two-deep at middle linebacker includes Queen and Payton Wilson with Carson Bruener and Cole Holcomb on the second team and veteran Malik Harrison on the third team.
Steelers open the preseason Thursday night hosting Green Bay.
