A Greensburg man has been sentenced to nearly two years in jail for animal abuse.

56-year-old Byran Thompson pled guilty to cruelty charges, after he had been asked by police earlier this month about an infection on his service dog's tail, which officers said they could see on the animal while it was with Thompson at a Greensburg bar.

The rottweiler was seized and a vet also found several puncture wounds all over its body, and an abscess on its elbow.

The dog has undergone surgery and will be up for adoption once he's out of medical foster care.

Thompson was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail and can no longer care for any animals
