PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A mail carrier found a box of five puppies on the side of the road in Ripley, Mississippi last week according to social media post by a Pittsburgh based pet rescue organization.
On September 26, a Facebook post by FurKid Rescue said that by the time a volunteer reached the location, only four puppies were there. They were searching for the fifth. It was not found.
One of the four pups died by the time they reached a Horn Lake, MS veterinarian associated with FurKid for treatment that day.
The following day another of the puppies died.
In the original social media post, the organization asked for donations to help with the emergency care expenses for the puppies. As of the time of this writing, over $900 had been raised.
FurKid told KDKA Radio that the puppies have a highly contagious virus called parvo and must remain in quarantine.
The organization said they partner with several vets and rescue organizations in Mississippi and Tennessee.
