Thursday and Friday are Code Red Air Quality days.
Wildfire smoke from Canada and Minnesota is expected to linger over much of the state through Friday, producing unhealthy pollution levels.
Dr. Jillian Irwin, the Allegheny County Health Department Medical Director, is advising all residents to consider limiting outdoor activities.
“Stay indoors, if you have an inhaler or any other treatments that help with your breathing . . . I would make sure that you’re taking your usual medication,” said Dr. Irwin.
Allegheny County Health Department says:
Sensitive groups: Avoid long or intense outdoor activities. Consider rescheduling or moving activities indoors.
General Public: Reduce long or intense activities. Take more breaks during outdoor activities.
According to the Breathe Project, this is the fourth time in the history of the state that a Code Red advisory has been issued for the entire commonwealth.
The previous other three were in 2023 during as the result of wildfires.
Those with breathing issues or will be outside for long periods of time are encouraged to wear an N95 mask.
